Chatter Creek 2011
We passed on Chatter Creek in 2010 and by Feb. 2010, I was already regretting that decision. So, with Les Margetak’s help, I secured a slot for 2011. Luckily, there was also space for my fellow powder pigs, Joni and Allene, and we joined the Jan. 28-Feb. 1 tour.
By now, these trips have a definite pattern: fly to Calgary on Thu. 1/27 and drive to Golden, BC; ski at Kicking Horse Ski Resort on Fri. 1/28 until about 1pm, and then head for Chatter’s Donald Heliport for the flight into the lodge.
This year, it was foggy and snowing at the heliport so we couldn’t fly. Instead, we did a ~2 hr. school bus ride followed by a ~1:15hr snowcat ride and a late dinner. Joni and Allene have great stories to tell about the snowcat ride.
The long ride in was rewarded with a lot of new snow and 4 days of fantastic skiing—equal to our epic 2006 and 2008 tours. For icing on the cake, we also opted for 4 heliskiing runs on Mon. 1/31. Chatter was having a sale: 4 or more runs at $150/person/run. See my Heliskiing at Chatter Creek album (opens in a new window).
On Sat. 1/29, Dylan Page (one of Chatter’s resident photographers) joined our cat for a day of photos and a video.
