Chatter Creek 2012
In what by now has become a long-standing tradition, Joni, Allene, and I made yet another cat skiing trip to Chatter Creek for the Jan. 27-31 tour. And we were delighted when Gene Myers secured a slot, too. Gene’s previous visit to Chatter was in 2008 and he was much missed on our subsequent trips.
This trip followed the usual pattern: fly to Calgary on Thu. 1/26, drive to Golden, BC, and meet at Chatter’s Donald Heliport for the flight into the lodge on 1/27.
This year, however, we made two important changes: we ditched our skis and rented Chatter’s and we stayed with Krys Sikora and Les Margetak the night of 1/26. Traveling without skis was a significant simplication, but it meant we did not ski at Kicking Horse on 1/27 (and it was a good season there, too). Staying with Krys and Les was a real treat: we ate and drank a lot and met Andrew, Krys’s wily father and proud 27" iMac owner. I look forward to seeing Andrew again next year.
While Utah was having one of the driest seasons on record, Canada was getting hammered. We had 4 days of fantastic skiing—another one like our 2006, 2008, and 2011 tours. On Tue. 1/31, Alain Sleigher (one of Chatter’s resident photographers) joined our cat for a day of photos and a video.
